Why I Shouldn't Be Reading This Book But I'm Still Gonna | The Doctor by Nikki Sloane + Cover Reveal

Hello everyone,
Today I bring you a book I'm totally hyped for, but also nervous to pick up because the trope is one I usually stay away from. BUT, it's written by Nikki Sloane and that makes all the difference.

The book is The Doctor. Here's the cover and synopsis. Read on and I'll explain my mixed yet mostly excited feelings.

For years, he was a part of my life. I watched him rush to the hospital countless times, his beautiful surgeon hands racing to save lives.

After all this time, I can’t escape the truth.

I want Dr. Lowe.

Lust chokes each moment we’re together. He promises to fulfill my fantasies—every dirty, naughty desire we can dream up.

Only, I can’t have him.

He’s confident. Experienced. Seductive.

And he’s my ex-boyfriend’s father.

The Doctor is out August 29th.

Obviously, it follows the age-gap romance trope, which I'm not a fan of due to the fact that it's too close to the student-teacher trope which is a HUGE absolute 🙅🚫🙅🚫 for me. As a teacher/librarian myself, it's just all sorts of wrong and gross.

Anywho: age-gap romance trope in The Doctor.

I debated long and hard whether I wanted to pick up and read it, let alone take part in all the promo stuff for it and feature it here on our blog. But, like I said, it all came to the fact that Nikki Sloane wrote it.

Last year I read Sordid and Torrid--my introduction to Nikki Sloane, btw--and they made me all kinds of uncomfortable while reading. Like, I shouldn't be rooting for the Sordid heroine to have an HEA with the hero because *hello!* DUBIOUS CONSENT?!

But, you guys, I fucking ate those books up, dubious consent and all. I never thought it would happen because what kind of messed up person am I? Because Sordid and Torrid were the opposite of the sweet yet sexy romances I love.

So, if Nikki Sloane can make me enjoy dark romances with dubious consent, I am curious to see how I'll feel about The Doctor's age-gap romance.

Here's a little teaser for ya.

About the Author
Nikki Sloane landed in graphic design after her careers as a waitress, a screenwriter, and a ballroom dance instructor fell through. For eight years she worked for a design firm in that extremely tall, black, and tiered building in Chicago that went through an unfortunate name change during her time there. Now she lives in Kentucky and manages a team of graphic artists. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, is married with two sons, writes dirty books, and couldn’t be any happier.

Happy reading,
Michelle
