One of the books we have on our shelf that we're super excited for is Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. We were lucky enough to get an early copy of it and I've actually started reading it. I have read a couple of chapters and I really, really like it already. Daughter of Smoke and Bone comes out later this month on the 27th and I highly suggest you add it to your "to-buy" list.

This novel is getting quite a lot of [well-deserved, it seems] buzz but if you've never heard of the book or haven't read the blurb:

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?
Doesn't that sound awesome?! What is more awesome is that there's a chapter sampler being offered on Netgalley where you can read the first 14 chapters for free!! Just click the link below:

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Chapter Sampler)

Laini Taylor will also be on a 9-city US tour beginning September 27th. See the complete tour schedule on Laini's website. If you live in the Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle or LA areas lucky you! Laini will talk about her inspiration for Daughter of Smoke and Bone, answer questions from the audience, sign books and give out special prizes (with maybe even a special treat for bloggers)!

Unfortunately, we'll have to live vicariously through you guys. Le sigh.

Going to an author signing is on my and Leslie's "things to do" list. But, alas, not many YA [or romance] authors come to Hawaii for author signings. We are always a little jealous of mainland bloggers who get to go to fun signing.

So, umm... if any of you guys are planning to go to one of Laini's stops... can someone maybe get us fun swag from the event (or a signed copy of Daughter of Smoke and Bone would be great too wink wink) pretty please?? **puppy dog eyes and batting eyelashes**

Anyway, for more Daughter of Smoke and Bone updates follow @LainiTaylor, @lbkids and the hashtag #smokeandbone. And show off your excitement by sporting the countdown and book excerpt widget on your blog.

So, just a little FYI about Daughter of Smoke and Bone. We hope everyone's having a lovely Saturday. Happy reading! :)

  1. Sarah's reading that right now and LOVING it. We've all read Lips Touch and thought it was fabulous, so Laini Taylor is high on our list of to-follow authors. Unfortunately she's not coming close enough to us, either. :( So it's not just you Hawaiians who have to live vicariously.

  2. I know what you mean about author signing. I'd love to go to them, but it's rare that an author that I'm a fan of comes to Israel. Though one of my favorite authors- Kate Elliott- does live in Hawaii...

I'm also really looking forward to reading this book, since I've been hearing such great things about it.

  3. I've been seeing tweets from some YA authors recommending this book so I think I might head to the SF event. I could get you some swag if I manage to make it.
