Synopsis: (from GoodReads)
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.Leslie's Review:
The two best friends, Rose and Lissa, at first shocked me how their personality were so different from each other and yet they are best friends. Rose's personality was reckless, sassy, and rude while Lissa was kind, caring, and loving-- they so opposite but I guess balance themselves out and I like that and as I kept reading, I began to understand why they're such good friends. Underneath Rose's reckless personality is a true friend to Lissa as well as her protector. Rose is a Dhampir, a guardian to a Moroi who are a mortal vampires and she takes her job very seriously.
She had to prove to everyone that she is a great guardian to Lissa. Rose and Lissa also share a bond where Rose knows how Lissa is feeling so whenever Rose feels Lissa is sad or scared, she rushes over to her side and help her feel better. As you can tell, I very much liked that strong friendship between them and it's great that the author made their friendship the story's main focus. I really like Rose because although she is reckless, sassy, and rude (traits that I hate in a person in real life) she was one of my favorite characters. As the story goes on I felt she wasn't all bad.
This book was also weirdly addicting. At first I didn't want to read it because I thought it was going to be another Twilight (a book I didn't really like) but my sister kept telling to read it. I finished it in 2 days and it was nothing like Twilight (yay!). I really enjoyed this book and I hope you get to read it and like it as much as I did. I give this book 4.9 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
